Hearing snaps, crackles, or pops from your knees isn't a good sign. These sounds may indicate joint issues like cartilage wear, ligament problems, or knee injuries.
Whether it’s from squatting too low in a workout or noticing a sharp twinge when climbing stairs, knee pain can quickly disrupt your life. Regardless of age, knee pain can limit your ability to do the activities you love. Knee issues may develop suddenly from an injury or gradually over time. At Kinesis Chiropractic, our specialists pinpoint the root cause of your knee pain and design a personalized care plan to help you get back to your routine quickly and safely, restoring your mobility and reducing discomfort.

Here are some of the most common knee conditions we see in our office
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that occurs when the cartilage cushioning your joints wears down over time, causing bones to rub against each other. This leads to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. OA most commonly affects the hands, knees, hips, neck, and lower back. There are two types: primary osteoarthritis, which results from natural wear and tear, and secondary osteoarthritis, caused by joint injuries or conditions. It is a very common condition, affecting over 80% of adults aged 55 and older, though not everyone experiences noticeable symptoms. Early treatment can help manage symptoms and maintain joint function.
Meniscus Tears
A meniscus tear is a common knee injury affecting the rubbery, C-shaped disks that cushion and stabilize the joint between the thighbone and shinbone. Each knee has two menisci, one on the inside and one on the outside. Meniscus tears often occur due to sudden twists or turns, particularly during sports. As people age, they are more prone to degenerative meniscus tears because the menisci weaken over time. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to relieve pain and restore knee function.
Runner's Knee
Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS), or runner’s knee, is characterized by pain around or under the kneecap (patella). It occurs when the movement of the patella over the femur becomes misaligned, causing discomfort. This pain often develops gradually and can affect one or both knees. PFPS is common in athletes and those with repetitive knee stress. It accounts for about one-third of knee pain cases seen by healthcare providers. If knee pain persists for several weeks, consulting a healthcare professional is essential for diagnosis and treatment.
Bursitis
Bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa located in front of the kneecap. This condition typically occurs due to prolonged kneeling, putting pressure on the bursa, affecting individuals like plumbers, roofers, and athletes. Direct trauma, such as a fall, can also lead to bursitis. Those with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or gout are more susceptible. In rare cases, bacterial infections from a knee injury can cause infectious bursitis, which requires urgent treatment. Proper diagnosis and care, help manage the condition and prevent complications.
Tendinitis
Knee tendinitis is the inflammation or irritation of the tendons around the knee, often caused by repetitive stress or overuse. Athletes such as runners, soccer players, and basketball players are particularly prone to this condition. Symptoms include knee pain and swelling that worsens with activity. Treatment typically involves rest, anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy to improve flexibility and address muscle imbalances. Early treatment can prevent complications and improve recovery.
